Known as Monique
I Am The Ancestor
Saturday, May 11th
1:00pm
In effort to raise awareness about National Missing Persons month in May, Monique Smith, author of “I Am the Ancestor,” and advocate for missing and exploited children around the world will be at Ukazoo Books to give a talk about the global crisis or missing/exploited children.
Monique Smith, or so she is called, recently discovered that the woman she has known to be her mother throughout her life is of no relation to her. On her quest to find answers, she found no trace of her biological parents, possible siblings, or no concrete leads from police officials. Today, Monique believes that she is possibly 48-years old and she is the mother of four children. As National Missing Persons Month approaches, Monique is on a mission to provide a beacon of hope to those families whose loved ones have gone missing.
Monique is conducting a statewide community activity, “The Amazing Find,” to provide tips for parents to keep their children safe, provide children with preventative tips to maintain safety and the local community with the contact information in the case someone goes missing.
Join us for a unique, powerful, and personal story, the likes of which we guarantee you’ve never heard before!

Sandals in the Snow
by Dr. Rose Ihedigbo
Saturday, May 18th
1:00pm – 4:00pm
Meet the author, and hear the amazing story:
Rose and three young children walked onto American soil wearing Sandals in the Snow, an abrupt transition from Nigeria to New York. This fascinating memoir recounts the amazing journey of an African family searching for the American dream.
Rose Ihedigbo draws readers into the account beginning in two small villages in Nigeria, through snowstorms, and into life in New York and Massachusetts. This engaging story sweeps the readers in, allowing them to live vicariously through the experiences. Sandals in the Snow integrates the author’s native language, Igbo, with English and utilizes African phrases and simple translations.
Rose poetically describes her story and the faithfulness of God that was impressed on her through every experience. Discover hope for your own struggle in this dramatic testimony to what can be achieved through commitment, faith, and education. This memoir provides readers an understanding of religion in African villages and a personal account of the Biafra War.
You will be encouraged at this portrait of human resilience and triumph over adversities.
Dr. Rose Ihedigbo’s son, James Ihedigbo, plays for the Baltimore Ravens.

Hearts Away, Bombs Away
by Vincent Gisriel, Jr.
Saturday, June 22nd
ALL DAY!
Meet the man who uncovered an amazing, heart-breaking love story.
Hearts Away, Bombs Away is a true World War II story. The author’s father was a bombardier on a B-17 aircraft. Vincent knew that when he was growing up, but he had no idea of what his father and his crew had accomplished during the war. Veterans of World War II simply did not talk much about combat when they returned home. Upon the death of his father, some of his fellow crew members began to share some of the exciting stories that occurred in the skies over Germany and occupied Europe. After hearing the stories, the author became very interested in his father’s military record and began to research it. He was able to document a good number of his father’s missions over enemy territory.
Along the way, he remembered that his parents had corresponded extensively during the war. They wrote and saved over 1,100 letters between them, and Vincent read every one. Initially, the author was looking for information about the war and that era, but he soon realized that his father could not write about missions or military strategy because that would have been a security breach. Nevertheless, the bombardier did write and share information about military life, in general. The author’s mother wrote about events occurring back home. However, the author also discovered a beautiful love story between his parents that just poured off the pages of their letters.
Vincent had set out to write a war story, which he did; but he also found a love story that just would not go away, thus “Hearts Away, Bombs Away.”

Writing Poems in the Rain
by Mark Bradley
“Words fall from the sky like raindrops…”
That is the first line in one of the poems in this book. Rain can be looked at in different ways, taken in different moods, and bring about different changes. While it has given life to the world since its beginning, the rain also has given life and inspiration to many writers through the ages. It can be happy or sad, beautiful yet depressing, and sometimes you can see the wide spectrum behind it, if you look close enough. Poetry, like the rain, has refreshing qualities and brings life to those who absorb it.
Writing Poems in the Rain is a collection of poems that contain a spectrum of emotions and experiences from life, broken down while writing poems in the rain.
